Is AI conscious? - or is it the movies we saw as kids.

The Toys Were Always Real

Every time I see someone debating whether AI is conscious, I think of the movies we grew up on. The ones where toys come alive when the humans fall asleep.

Will the machine wake up? Does it already feel something?

What is similar to the movies is that AI is a tool. A powerful one powered by GPUs, electricity, and data centers. Just like the toys are with batteries.

Writers are writing with it, researchers are researching with it, and founders are founding with it. This movie, just like the toys, cars, or the transformers (pun intended), is as much fun!

So are LLMs sentient? I don't know, but even if they are, I don't think it really matters.
